Silk Screen
Using stencils and paint, this technique can be traced back to the Orient. It was introduced and patented in the UK in the early 1900's before being adapted in America in 1915 to form the multi-colour printing technique which we use today. It largely took off as an industrial process during WWII when it was used for mass production of flags and banners. An excellent method of printing on textiles.
Transfer
Transfer printing, by definition, actually refers to the printing technique that is used to print on to ceramics. This process can be traced back in the UK to 1750's. It is a technique that Wedgewood have largely been credited for.
People looking for Transfer Printing in todays age are, of course, looking for the digital adoption called Thermal Transfer Printing. This technique is perfect for very fine and sharp images or logo's.
Process Print
Process printing can be grouped in to a number of categories with four colour and six colour process being the most popular choices. The four colour process, also known as CYMK, is often the most talked about. It is a printing technique that is used on a variety of media from promotional items to photography. Results are achieved by layering individual colours on top of each other until the final image is achieved (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & black)
